Tired from your visit, just want to relax in your room and order some food? Maybe you’re craving some western dishes, something familiar and comforting. Since COVID-19, food delivery apps have truly come to life, becoming essential during lockdowns and beyond. Phnom Penh offers plenty of choices for food delivery, with many apps also working across Thailand and Vietnam. Here’s a handy list of the top food delivery apps you can download and use while in Cambodia. Noted that most of them are not available in all provinces.
1. Nham24: Cambodia’s Popular Local Super App
Nham24 is one of the most popular local food delivery apps, though not the first to launch. Thanks to its widespread popularity, it offers a wide selection of restaurants and even convenience stores. Operating in more than 18 cities, there’s a good chance it’s available wherever you are. However, be aware that delivery fees can sometimes be quite high. The app also supports ordering groceries, flowers, and even transportation services, making it a versatile choice.
2. Foodpanda: International Reach with Local Flavor
Foodpanda entered Cambodia in 2019 and quickly became a favorite, especially due to its frequent promotions. I personally used Foodpanda a bit more than Nham24, though lately the delivery fees have increased. It’s probably the second most popular app after Nham24. When I first heard the name “Foodpanda,” I was skeptical, but it has proven to be quite reliable. Foodpanda operates in more than 15 cities and offers a wide range of cuisines, from local Khmer dishes to international options.
3. GrabFood: Part of the Grab Super App
GrabFood is integrated into the Grab super app, which is already well-known for ride-hailing services. Although I haven’t tried GrabFood yet, Grab’s dominance in transport suggests they are competitive in food delivery too. The app currently features over 400 local and international restaurants in Phnom Penh, with plans to expand further. The convenience of using one app for rides and food delivery is a big plus.
4. E-GetS: A Local App with a Chinese Focus
E-GetS is said to be developed locally but initially focused mainly on Chinese cuisine. When it first launched, much of the interface was in Chinese, which could be confusing. The delivery fees tend to be better than Nham24 and Foodpanda, but the food choices are more limited, and some restaurants don’t list their full menus. The app’s interface is somewhat basic, but drivers are often praised for being polite and professional.
5. WowNow: The Newcomer on the Block
WowNow is a newer player that started in 2020 and is rapidly growing. I haven’t tried it yet but plan to soon and will update on my experience. It offers various lifestyle services beyond food delivery, such as online shopping and bill payments, making it a promising all-in-one app for Phnom Penh residents.
6. BLOC: Cambodia’s Startup Delivery App with Wide Services
BLOC is a fast-growing Cambodian startup delivery app that goes beyond just food delivery. With BLOC Food, you get fresh, hot meals delivered straight to your doorstep, featuring a wide variety of cuisines including pizza, burgers, noodle dishes, Khmer classics, sushi, and more. The app offers real-time order tracking so you can watch your food as it arrives.
A Word of Caution
One thing I don’t like is how some delivery drivers sometimes drive recklessly, putting themselves and others in danger. While they are dedicated to delivering your food on time, please be careful on the road-no one wants “blood on their food.”
Final Thought
Phnom Penh’s food delivery apps offer a fantastic way to enjoy local and international cuisines without leaving your room. Whether you prefer the extensive options of Nham24, the promotions on Foodpanda, or the all-in-one convenience of BLOC, these apps have transformed dining in Cambodia. Download a few, explore the menus, and enjoy delicious meals delivered right to your door-perfect for relaxing after a busy day of exploring or work.
